Interior Design Sample & Resource Library
The library you see today is the work of many students who have volunteered their time and energy working to make this valuable resource available to you. We hope you enjoy using the design library, the plotter/blueprint room, and drafting alcove, and that you will take special pride in keeping everything clean and organized. Treat these resources with respect and others will follow your lead.
The resource library is wholly maintained and funded by the Interior Design Club.
Rule #1 Clean up after yourself.
- If you got it out, put it away.
- If you left clippings on the floor or counters, sweep or wipe them into the trash.
- Out of respect for your fellow students, please take only what you need.
Binders & Loose Literature
- Do not take it from the room unless there is no alternative (i.e. if you need to make a photocopy of something).
- When returning, please put it back in its correct place.
- These materials are not to be kept by individual students.
Magazine Rack
- These magazines are for you to use for your projects. Please do not tear off the cover page.
- Please do not remove current issues from AAS8.
- You are welcome to take older magazines, but please do not take more than one or two, leaving enough for others to use
- Remember there are well over 300 students in the program each semester.
Fabric Samples
- Large fabric samples with their labels intact are hanging along one side of the wall. Fabric books are on the opposite wall, smaller fabric samples and chain sets are in the drawers marked ‘FABRIC’.
- If you remove a sample from a fabric book, please take the entire piece or throw the remnant away. The sample is not useful unless it is still in the book. If you cut part of a single piece of fabric, copy down the information from the label onto a piece of paper and make sure the label is left intact on the remaining piece and hang the piece back on the hanger. If the label is missing, throw away the fabric; it is useless without the label.
- Don’t overlook the fabric chain sets, high-end suppliers often send us chain sets. Once you find what you need, you can always contact them for larger samples.
Counters
- The counters should be left clear after you have finished working on your project.
- Use the blue feather duster to clear away any dust, etc. Throw scraps in the garbage.
- Use the recycle bins for paper and cardboard only. Glass/can recycling bins are available in the AAS hallways.
Carpet Samples
- Carpet books are on the smaller shelves. Larger carpet sample pieces are in drawers marked ‘CARPET’. If you remove a carpet sample from a carpet book, keep it or throw it away.
- If you cut a portion from a larger piece, make sure the entire label is intact after you take your piece; if not, take the entire piece or throw it away.
Supplies
For your convenience, we have placed scissors, pens, paper cutter, envelopes, staplers, scrap paper, etc. in the design library. Please return them in their proper places after using. In addition, cleaning supplies such as gloves, sponges, wipes, etc. are located under each sink.
Sink & Food
- DO NOT EMPTY PAINT INTO THE SINK. It is toxic and it clogs up the sink. First use a paper towel to wipe off as much paint as you can from your palette and brushes. Only then should you rinse your item in the sink.
- Ants are a problem in the library so please wipe the sink down after rinsing soda and coffee containers and keep food covered.
Bulletin Board & Sign-up Clipboards
The bulletin board has information regarding any upcoming club events. Sign-up sheets are hanging directly under the event information.
Payment Box
You can place your club/event dues in an envelope with your name and event date on it and put it in the payment box. Checks are preferred.
Suggestions/Donations
If you have any suggestions or feel the library does not have specific samples or literature for something, please leave a note for the design library mail slot.
Sample Donations
Please contact Katja Diegelmann or Jeff Pfeil to make arrangements for sample donations.
There is a small wire basket located on the counter at the far end of the Design Library for New Donations Only. You must properly re-shelve anything you have removed and used. DO NOT place it in the bin for the committee to re-shelve.
Volunteers
We encourage you to volunteer in the design library. Please contact Katja Diegelmann or Jeff Pfeil for more information, or leave your contact information in the design library mail slot.
