2008 Board Members of WVC Interior Design Club

Club Officers' annual term is from October 1st through September 30th.

President: Molly Wagner
Molly Wagner
ID Program Start Date: Fall 2007
Why Did I Join?: I originally volunteered my time to help the club with one event, for one day.  I just wanted to see what it would be like to be a volunteer. I was going through a particularly difficult set of courses in the ID program, at the time. I discovered that the officers of  the club were hardworking students, just like me!  They had been through the same obstacles that I was going through. These people, that I had never met before, were so encouraging, welcoming, and unpretentious.  After that day, I craved the dynamic, energetic feeling that I had when I volunteered for that one event.  Now I’m a volunteer for the club everyday!
Other Interests & Hobbies: My God and my family come first! In addition I love… Making music(Harp, Piano, Bohdran), listening to music(mostly alternative), Anime and Manga, reading in general, fitness(running, pilates, yoga), gardening, making mosaics, fashion(40’s and 50’s retro style especialy), driving my scooter, causing trouble(okay not really).

Why Did I Join?: At first I wanted to take advantage of the collective knowledge of my design student peers. After having been a member for about a year and having enjoyed a multitude of e-mails about interesting events and job postings, I decided it was time to get more involved. After only about 1 1/2 years in the program, becoming a Library Co-Chair with Natalie Reilley is a great way to ease into the activities of a board member.
Other Interests & Hobbies: Running (I just completed my first 1/2 marathon - yay me!), travel, yummy food, jewelry making, gardening, and reading.

Why Did I Join?: I was very inspired by a story Diane narrated in the “Introduction to Interior design” class, Summary - ordinary students do extra-ordinarily by learning, observing and networking. I joined the club immediately at the Kick-off. I have gained tremendously via WVCIDC events, resource library and networking with other students and professionals in the industry. I am proud that WVC has drawn tremendous visibility in the industry through the design club and its members.
Other Interests & Hobbies: Observing and Analyzing - Meaningful Design, Art that is abstract and Architecture that speaks of its origin, culture and belief, Creativity in any form, Human Psychology, Traditional Indian dance, watching movies and unwinding with my family……

Why Did I Join?: I joined the club because I wanted to contribute to and promote our interior design program. But being a member was not enough for me. I wanted to be an active member and organize events and that is why I joined the board. It enabled me to communicate withe design community leaders and design firms. Through event planning, I got a chance to talk to numerous designers who now are aware of the program qualities and potential of our design students.
Other Interests & Hobbies: Fashion design, sewing, cooking, I am a foodie.

Why Did I Join?:I love being involved, having 'a say' and implementing change. When I first arrived at WVC I was nurtured, encouraged, and mentored by several members of the club. I loved the community feeling that the club brought to the college, and the opportunities to network were so abundant. I have gained so much satisfaction from working with the club from meeting amazing peers, to getting philanthropy work accomplished, and shaping a successful future for myself.
Other Interests & Hobbies: Reading, running and generally being in nature, listening to music, scrapbooking, laughing, coffee and tea parties!

Why Did I Join?: The need to do something more than just be a student of ID, lead me to look into the WVCIDC's activities. I love to meet new people, network and learn. So after an year and a half of caring dearly for our Design Library and meeting fantastic people on the way I would love to inform and communicate to our fellow students just how important it is to be a part of the club!

I cannot stress enough the benefits of being involved with people in your industry. Joining the club gives you the opportunity to work and learn from fellow members and participate in various events and activities. So be smart and JOIN THE CLUB !

Other Interests & Hobbies: Design has always been my passion, besides Art. I love color, it floods my senses! I am also an artist and do modern contemporary paintings in mixed media, mostly oils. Check my website at www.artncreation.com. I also give art classes to kids. Music, Gardening, Travelling are some of my other interests...But, most of all I love to watch intermingling of life with Art!

Why Did I Join?: I've served on the board previously, which has been invaluable in terms of working together with incredible, successful students and professionals. Being involved keeps me close to opportunities and activities in the club and professional world, and has led to some rewarding volunteer opportunites. Green design and sustainability are my passions (along with universal and aging in place design), so I'm honored to share opportunities to further one's knowledge, socialize, and network. We're lucky to be students in such exciting times!

The best advice I can offer all levels of ID students is to: participate in the Interior Design Club, USGBC - including the Emerging Green Builders group, and Build It Green's educational events. Join professional organizations and volunteer.

Do you have questions about joining professional organizations or becoming a Certified Green Building Professional (CGBP), Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), or LEED AP? Feel free to contact me (I'll be taking the LEED exam 6/09).

Other Interests & Hobbies: I and two other board members educate youth in schools, libraries, and organizations on sustainability and the importance in taking action steps. Visit www.empoweringworldchange.com to see what we're doing. In my free time I enjoy travel to broaden my experiences.

Hospitality Chair: Jaime Ebright
Jaime
ID Program Start Date: 4th semester since 2007
Why Did I Join?: For those of you who do not know me, I am in my 4th semester of the Interior Design Program here at West Valley College. As a young girl, my artist mother took me on countless Designer Showcase house tours. That was the start of an undying passion for Interior Design. I am finally at a point in my life where I am able to pursue that passion in earnest. Thus my reason for joining the Club, I want to surround myself with talented people interested in the same subjects as I and to support them in their endeavors. In return, I too will receive support and encouragement in my quest to learn all I can about Interior Design.
Other Interests & Hobbies: In my former lives, I was a chef on charter sailing yachts, a Catering Coordinator for a large Conference Center, and the Hospitality Director for a large private yacht. So, I am not exactly a stranger to event planning or hospitality services. I plan to make my past experiences enhance YOUR experiences at our Club events so that you enjoy the events and attend as many as you can!

Why Did I Join?: From past experiences, I've found that school club membership has provided excellent opportunities in industry knowledge, job openings, and career paths from both professionals and students. The West Valley Interior Design Club is one of the best gateways to sharpening the networking skills before entering the workforce. Why go through the learning curve alone when you have a wealth of resources from a club such as WVCIDC.
