WVCIDC Calendar of Events

Once again, we did it!

"Allow me to tell you how excited I am about the success of last nights kick off.

Students looked HAPPY. Bruce Goff said, 'YOU GUYS ARE INSANE!' in a good way. He was so impressed by our level of professionalism. He is willing to personally give us a tour of one of his new hotel projects in mid-January! How cool is that??

LOVED The slideshow of Turkey. Gotta save $$$ for next year's program. This board is all about supporting each other and the students.

Welcome new board members. I hope you will find this a satisfying experience. Get others to come and join your committees. They don't have to come to all the meetings, let them know that.

Again THANK YOU to HILA for setting a FINE example for presidency and setting a high standard. Molly we are all behind you and willing to help. I am so happy to be among all of you. YOU ARE ALL FABULOUS!" Naz Saeed - Student Member & IIDA Liason of IDC.

The recent Legislation Workshop held on June 20th was very successful. The dialogues were light, humorous, and kept the attendees engaged. Many positive comments!

Speakers included Bruce Goff, Linda Newton, and Greg Price, Judy Hen, the president of IDCC (Interior Design Coalition of California), also attended and observed the meeting. Dr. Nancy Wolford, Interior Design Program Director, of Canada College and former WVC instructor was in attendance.

SHORT SUMMARY

  • Bill SB 1312 has not been killed! it is being modified to include more provisions regarding community colleges, and will be re-introduced next year
  • Almost ALL community college Interior Design curriculum qualify
  • In most cases your interior design work experience before or after your education will be recognized (some designers have practiced for years before going to school.)
  • A bachelors degree in interior design is NOT required, certificates, diplomas and coursework count.
  • Your interior design experience does not have to be under a registered interior designer or licensed architect
  • There is no CIDA or FIDER accreditation required to qualify your education
  • NCIDQ will be conforming its qualification criteria to the California Registration Board for California designers
  • Currently you can be certified designer (Title Act) but not registered. There are several ways to become a certified designer in State of California. You still need an architect to stamp your construction documents for the permit process. The legislation provides accountability by Registering Interior Designers (Practice Act) and get your construction documents through the permit process without the need for a licensed architect to review and stamp them. NCIDQ is a National exam, not just for California.
  • there are several exclusions in that does not require registration for specific types of design: Selecting Finishes for example
  • Registration is voluntary and depends on the nature of the services you provide. If you are not registered you will not be able to use Registered Interior Designer as your title. But you are still an Interior Designer. You will NOT be put of BUSINESS.
